good idea, but a bit difficult, as all away systems can be extreamly difficult ...
But, it can be built on that, if you are set away (/away) ;)
It is short work, but still, may be difficult .. or not?

The ppl at SmartICQ has done it. It just syncs with /away and set your away msg to whatever you're set to on IRC
